Aryna Sabalenka Wins 2024 WTA Player of the Year After Outstanding Season

Aryna Sabalenka has been named the 2024 WTA Player of the Year, marking her first time receiving this honor. Sabalenka concluded the year ranked No. 1, securing two Grand Slam titles and achieving a season record of 56 wins and 14 losses.

Throughout the year, Sabalenka reached seven finals and triumphed in four titles, including successfully defending her Australian Open crown and winning her first US Open title. Additionally, she captured two WTA 1000 events in Cincinnati and Wuhan.

Sabalenka reclaimed the world No. 1 ranking in October, overtaking Iga Swiatek, and maintained her position by finishing the season at the top following her fourth consecutive appearance at the WTA Finals.

Other players honored in the media vote include the doubles team of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini, Paula Badosa, Emma Navarro, and Lulu Sun. Badosa was recognized as the Comeback Player of the Year after returning from a back injury to reach No. 12 in the rankings. Navarro earned the Most Improved Player of the Year award by rising to No. 4 and reaching two major finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.

Lulu Sun was named the Newcomer of the Year, advancing from outside the Top 200 to a career-best No. 39, highlighted by a quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon and a runner-up finish in Monterrey. Jasmine Paolini also received accolades for her achievements in doubles alongside Errani, including winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics and contributing to Italy’s Billie Jean King Cup victory.
